Analog Cameras:
- Signal Transmission: Analog cameras transmit video signals in analog format over coaxial cables. These signals degrade over long distances, and the quality may suffer.
- Resolution: Analog cameras typically offer lower resolution compared to IP cameras. Standard analog cameras often have resolutions measured in TV lines (TVL), while higher-end ones may provide resolutions up to 960H.
- Installation: Analog cameras may require separate cables for video and power, and the installation can be more complex than IP cameras.
- DVR (Digital Video Recorder): Analog cameras are commonly connected to a DVR for video recording and storage. DVRs process and compress the analog video signals.
Advantages of Analog Cameras:
- Lower upfront cost, especially for smaller installations.
- Simplicity in some setups, especially for basic surveillance needs.
- Compatibility with existing analog infrastructure (cables, monitors, etc.).
IP Cameras:
- Signal Transmission: IP cameras use digital signals and transmit video over computer networks, typically through Ethernet cables or wirelessly using Wi-Fi. This allows for more flexible and longer-distance transmission.
- Resolution: IP cameras generally offer higher resolutions, including megapixel and even 4K resolutions. This results in clearer and more detailed images.
- Installation: IP cameras often use Power over Ethernet (PoE), allowing both power and data to be transmitted over a single cable, simplifying installation. Wireless options are also common.
- NVR (Network Video Recorder): IP cameras are connected to an NVR, which is designed to process and store digital video data. NVRs offer more advanced features and scalability compared to DVRs.
Advantages of IP Cameras:
- Higher resolution for clearer images.
- Network connectivity for remote access and monitoring.
- Power over Ethernet (PoE) simplifies installation.
- Advanced features like analytics, motion detection, and facial recognition.
- Scalability, as adding more cameras to the network is relatively straightforward.
